The new BenRiach 25 is expressive and evocative, with clear sherry notes on the nose leading the way toward a more austere aromatic profile that reminds one of old leather chairs, stacked firewood, and a mix of mild baking spice. The palate is quite effusive, rich and honey-sweet with loads of citrus peel and oil. The palate builds from that kickoff, with a clear chocolate note on the back end plus notes of cherry pits and almonds. Lightly woody but far from overpowering, it’s a delight that’s hard to put down, crafted using enough sherry oak to brighten things up, but not so much as to wash away all the nuance.
